The Real Mother Goose

The nursery rhymes and songs were mostly gathered from 18th-century England. The name “Mother Goose” was borrowed from Charles Perrault’s earlier collection of French fairy tales attributed to “ma Mère l’Oye” (my Mother Goose). Although many of these rhymes originally ridiculed certain historical figures and events, they became widely popular with British and American children for games, activities, and bedtime. Their simple rhymes, rhythms, and imagery make them suitable for any age. I sing some of them to the most familiar American melodies.
