The Mysterious Stranger

Twain began but never finished three versions of this story of a magical boy—this was the first one published in book form (1923). For many years Twain worked on the fantasy about “Captain Stormfield,” but these two chapters are all that were ever published. The Bonus Track “1601” was never intended for publication—a fantasy dialogue between such characters as Queen Elizabeth I, Sir Walter Raleigh, and Shakespeare (not recommended for children).
