My Book House

This twelve-volume set is a beautiful collection of poems and stories in what I call “conceptual order” (arranged from the simple to the complex in vocabulary, length, and accessibility). It follows and leads the intellectual growth of the child. First published in 1920, edited by Olive Beaupré Miller, it offers a literary and cultural education similar to the McGuffey’s Readers of the 19th century (which I also recorded and are still available through Audible.com). My mother read these books to my sisters and me as toddlers, and I’ve cherished them ever since. Some stories may be considered politically incorrect today*, but I grew up to them and did not become a racist. I’ve recorded only the first four volumes so far of a later edition, with the help of Joseph Raney (little boy voices) and Kathy Aughenbaugh (female voices), and provided all the music.
