Mark Twain in Eruption

In the process of creating his autobiography, Mark Twain decided not to publish it until well after his death, in order to give himself the freedom to say whatever he pleased—and not offend living persons and their families. It was first published in 1923–24 in highly edited form. In 1940 these previously unpublished autobiographical pieces were edited by Bernard DeVoto, published by Harper.
